Wednesday 19 October 2011

A bit later going in to work as sorting out about my flight tickets for tomorrow with Aanand and a local SIM card that he is lending me, after putting the first one he gave me into my phone everything was in German, got language changed but it wouldn’t call or text his phone which was on different network, so he got Anupam to lend me one of his which worked.

Also needed more cash to pay for tickets so got taxi from near the temple where they wait & asked him to take me to ATM & back
Went straight up to the sewing machine to shorten Prem’s new track suit bottoms – no pins or navy thread so went out to buy, got thread but had to manage without pinning the nylon material which was difficult but they looked ok. Kismat didn’t like the length of his denim cutoffs so asked me to shorten them too.
This machine is certainly going to be useful - once we get one of the didi's using it and teaching the girls how to sew & I think some of the boys will be keen to learn

Showed the boys all the pictures I had downloaded & the photos taken at the zoo and they picked which they wanted for their projects. Will get all photos printed ready for when they get back. Only 6p each so even getting 80 printed isn’t going to cost that much

Checked the bathroom & found bits that hadn’t been done right – washbasin loose, no new shower head & drain in floor blocked [probably builders rubbish from digging floor up. Told admin staff about these & they are getting plumber back to fix.

The boys talking to a friend

Monica & Anne had the boys cleaning their bedrooms – washing walls, paintwork & windows as they have ordered new carpet & curtains to be fitted next week. Caught one boy using a towel to polish the windows – told him to wash it quickly before Monica or Anne found out or he wouldn’t be going camping! I will get their bedding washed before they come back & they will have nice rooms that they will then be proud of and want to keep clean & tidy

Wished them a good camping trip & left early to pack my bag for tomorrow and put all my other stuff in suitcase, as they may want to let my room to someone else while I'm away. They said no it’s ok, but may get loads of enquiries!!

Looked online for weather at Lukla – its been sunny & warm but 60% chance of cloud tomorrow & cooler. Just my luck! Went out after dinner with Ajay [our cook] to book taxi to airport for 4:30 tomorrow morning – his brother is one of the drivers so got special deal. They know me now and joke a lot about fares as I refuse to pay ‘tourist price’ & we usually come to a compromise – me getting it a bit cheaper & them still getting more than locals pay. Cant believe that I argue over 200 [£1.65] down to 150 [£1.25] on a fare that would cost 5 times more than that home
